The West Tennessee Regional Department of Health welcomed home six of its nurses Wednesday from a deployment to help victims of Hurricane Florence in North Carolina.
The nurses were part of a 20-person “nurse strike team” that volunteered to spend 14 days in North Carolina providing aid in shelters.
“Our deployment was absolutely a wild ride,” Jennifer Cook, team leader for the West Tennessee Nurse Strike Team, said. “You don’t know what you’re going to get into when you get there, and we had to travel through some treacherous water and dodge some flooded areas on our way.”
